Clinical Benefits
3dMDs soft tissue images are medically-accurate 3D digital representations of the
patient at a specific point in time during the period of treatment. The 3dMD image
sequence can remain an integral part of the patients permanent health record.
Clinicians can use 3dMDs imaging technique on a routine basis as there is no
radiation or other side effects usually associated with invasive imaging techniques.
Pre- and post-operative soft tissue conditions can be monitored in a variety of patient
postures and expressions throughout the treatment cycle.
3dMDs systems are simple to use by all members of the clinical support team and can
be easily integrated into any standard patient documentation protocol. With less than
a 2-millisecond capture speed, 3dMDs systems are effectively instantaneous and especially
suited for imaging young restless children.
Clinicians can analyze and landmark the patients soft tissue data easily and
calculate and compare a number of parameters, including conventional measurements
such as linear and complex surface distances, ratios, angles, areas, volumes, etc.
With 3dMD, you are working in a true 3D environment so you can examine soft tissue
data from cross sectional views on any plane or intersecting plane.
The surface image can also be related to hard tissue data including Cephlometric
X-Rays, Computed Tomography Imaging (CTI), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Clinicians can automatically compute facial size- and shape-change, as well as
the degree and directionality of the change. These changes are localized and quantified
using 3D finite-element analysis for individual patients or for means derived from
samples, and can be statistically tested.
3dMD can help you collect aggregated empirical data that supports classifying and
categorizing a patients condition, as well as establishing a source for normative
averages. Because 3dMDs images are standardized and compact, they can be used in
collaborative statistical research studies with colleagues anywhere in the world.
3dMDs imaging technique can capture all skin colors and can manage and measure
the conditions associated with particular skin textures.
3dMDs soft tissue images are easy to understand and can be used as an interactive
communication tool to help the doctor easily explain the condition and possible treatments
to the patient, his/her family, and support networks - as well as the other medical
professionals involved in the treatment and recovery process.
3dMDs images can be exported to industry file formats which can be input into the
validation and computer aided design protocols used by orthotic and implant device
manufacturers. 3dMDs images are compatible with the medical device procedures used
by such companies.
3dMDs soft tissue images support telemedicine initiatives allowing exceptional and
complex cases to be referred to clinical peers. The images are also supportive of
quantitative outcome audit to share experience and to generally help improve technique
protocols and treatment methods.
3dMDs surface images support a wide range of simulation concepts including software,
which predicts outcome based on surgical experience and/or aggregated previous treatments.
They also support both physical model based and computer-aided simulation of the
anticipated surgical procedure.
