ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Orthodontic and oral and maxillofacial surgery professionals can now obtain highly precise, ultra-fast 3D surface images of patients, and analyze treatment outcomes in a digital 3D environment, as a result of a new alliance between Kodak and 3dMDvultus.

Through an exclusive distribution agreement, Kodak will become the distributor of 3dMD’s imaging systems, related hardware for 3D surface imaging, and 3D analysis software in the United States. Orthodontists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons can utilize 3D CBCT and CBVT radiography systems, along with 3dMD’s extraoral photography system, to mathematically register surface tissue and hard tissue for analysis purposes. In the future, the parties anticipate that dental specialists will be able to utilize this functionality from within KODAK Orthodontic and OMS Imaging Software, enhancing practitioners’ imaging capabilities while streamlining office processes and communication.

3D Imaging in Milliseconds
The 3dMDface System features sophisticated imaging functionality. It captures highly precise 3D surface images in approximately 1.5 milliseconds. The images can then be matched with 3D radiographs to generate composite 3D images for pre-treatment planning, outcome assessment, statistical and normative analysis, and research quantification. As 3dMD’s imaging technique is non-invasive, a 3D image of the patient can be easily captured on every visit, enabling dental specialists to monitor progress and modify treatment plans if necessary.

The 3dMDface technology also features:
• 3D landmark and measurements. 3D linear, curvilinear and true distance measurements of combined soft tissue and hard tissue points; customizable landmark points; and standard analysis. All data points are exportable to MICROSOFT Excel software and the patient file.
• Cephalometric tracings and analysis. In the future, the parties expect that further integration between 3dMD’s software and KODAK Orthodontic and OMS Imaging Software will enable both 2D and 3D cephalometric tracing and analysis.
• Quantitative outcomes. Pre- and post treatment comparisons.
• Automated profiles. Automatically generate a standard set of 2D profiles from each 3D data set for the patient record.

“This advanced 3D imaging solution will enable our customers to offer cutting-edge patient care,” said Jay Chitwood, orthodontic and OMS market manager for Kodak’s dental systems group, “This collaborative relationship with 3dMDvultus demonstrates the exciting potential of integrating sophisticated imaging technology with practice management solutions.”

“We are excited to be part of this strategic venture,” said Chris Lane, CEO for 3dMDvultus. “There is an increasing demand from the orthodontic and OMS community to incorporate accurate 3D medical photography into their practices. Adding the 3dMD System to its full portfolio of imaging solutions will enable Kodak’s customers to realize the power of treatment planning in a true 3D environment.”
