Highlights:
• The patient has non-syndromic oligodontia and cannot provide retention. Our treatment overcomes this obstacle.
• The application of 3-dimensional printing titanium plate has good stability, small trauma.
• Reasonable orthodontic design corrects bone incoordination and improves profile.
• Orthodontics collaborates with multiple disciplines to ensure safe and efficient treatment.
Abstract: Bone-anchored maxillary protraction (BAMP) is effective for skeletal Class III malocclusion. This case report introduces a treatment method that successfully corrects skeletal Class III malocclusion by using 3-dimensional (3D) printed titanium plates combined with BAMP. The patient is aged 12.5 years with severe maxillary hypoplasia and overgrowth of the mandible. The patient has non-syndromic oligodontia and is thus unable to provide adequate support to design appliances. Preoperative cone-beam computed tomography data were analyzed using 3-Matic software (version 13.0; Materialise, Leuven, Belgium) to fabricate the individualized 3D-printed BAMP device. The customized plates were printed using selective laser casting technology and precisely positioned onto the bone by auxiliary positioning guides. The 3D-printed titanium plate was used to cooperate with BAMP for reverse correction, and its stability was observed to be favorable throughout the correction. After treatment, the sagittal relationship between the maxillary and mandible became coordinated, the shape of the temporomandibular joint was rebuilt, and the lateral profile was improved. Finally, with upper lip frenulum repair and the application of a removable partial denture, the overall integrity of the dentition was restored.
